Salisbury

Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, which was established by the pioneer column in 1890 and was named fort Salisbury after the British prime minister of the time. 100 years later the name was changed to Harare, in recognition to the pre-colonial Shona chief Neharawa.

With a population of over 2,2 million people, Harare is one of the hidden tourist cities that shares both the quite welcoming atmosphere and the typical ghetto ambience at opposite ends. It is also a hub of traffic as it links logistics between Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa. Mainly haulage trucks criss crossing the city to link up on the main roads that leads to the land borders.

What to do?

Beautiful botanical gardens and small nature parks such as Mukuvisi and Lake Chivero makes it an ideal place for nature and conservation lovers. The kopje balancing rocks, where the original fort was erected also makes up for some historical background of the city.

Harare international airport hosts world’s biggest airliners plying the region such as British airways, Ethiopian airways, Emirates, South African airways, Qatar Airlines and many other regional airliners. Harare also houses many embassies and foreign country diplomats and high commissioners.

It saves as a connection to the Eastern Highlands, Mana Pools NP,  Kariba and the Great Zimbabwe.
