About us

Twende Afrika is a family driven project,

a long awaited African dream inspired by the travels and adventures of Sofie & Fungai, a project born from love, patience and passion.

With Sofie and Fungai you can easily say LET’S GO TO AFRICA – ATWENDE’ AFRIKA

My word

My first experience of Zimbabwe came in 2019 when my trip ended in The Victoria Falls. It was actually my very first experience of Southern Africa and her safaris. We crossed three borders, South-Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe and discovered beautiful landscapes and an amazing wildlife.

By the end of the trip my appetite for Africa was truly whetted and I resolved to return one day. I fell in love with a brilliant tour guide and a wonderful person with a big bag of patience and a warm heart, Fungai, my husband.

Zimbabwe has some of the best game viewing in Africa. With the Big Five found in three of its national parks and rare opportunities for walking safaris. I was surprised about the country Zimbabwe. It has a long list of must-have holiday features including geographical diversity and beauty, delightfully friendly people, fascinating historical sites, cultural interest, a wide offer of leisure, adventurous pursuits like wild water rafting, bungee jumping.. , world-leading big game viewing and stunning birdlife.

Accommodation ranging from wilderness campsites along the Zambezi river or in the bush to world-class hotels and lodges. I tried to understand why such a destination as Zimbabwe is not in our tourism market. South-Africa with its famous Krüger NP is so hot for Belgian tourists and the setting is commercial if you compare with the authentic landscapes of Zimbabwe national parks. I did a small research and read that Zimbabwe was once the most advanced and developed tourism destination in Southern Africa. Visitors want to feel safe on vacation and Zimbabwe’s politically troubled past inspired the media and killed tourism. Happily this situation is changed and the government recognised that tourism has a major part to play in Zimbabwe’s economy.

People generally spent just a day in Victoria Falls and, well, if you’ve done that, you’ve done Zimbabwe. Basically Zimbabwe has it all, expert travelers through Africa told me that Zimbabwe is by far the most complete tourism destination in the whole Africa.

We hope to inspire and to convince you that Zimbabwe those days offers an excellent value when you consider the wealth of fascinating things to see and do in a peaceful atmosphere. That Zimbabwe is much more than the Victoria Falls.

Welcome

Sofie, the all-rounder

Sofie is a passionate traveller who fell in love with Africa the first time she set her foot on it. From the traveller point of view she understands what the (Western) clients really enjoys on travel. Having spent some time in the African villages, having felt the veritable cultural life and came across the charming of Zimbabwe, Sofie realised the benefit of travelling in small groups than in large groups, which are more influenced by the schedule.

Sofie have taught herself how to survive the adventurous African safari by spending much of her time in Africa outdoors learning to cook on a fire and working with few available resources.

Sofie is your main dutch translator and an assistant to Fungie though spending much time in the office for all your bookings. A time keeper that will keep you moving with a smile on tour. A physiotherapist by profession which you can book for a relaxing massage once you chill down after your safari days.
